One of the most common problems when playing popular online games is live chatting on the Internet. Some live chatting services require players to share multiple IP addresses in order to make calls, while others (such as Skype or TeamSpeak, TimTalk) take up a lot of system resources. This gives rise to Discord, a more user-friendly chat software based on modern technology.
The conflict is a VoIP, Instant messaging and digital distribution platforms that have become very popular in recent years, running on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, iOS platforms and web browsers. It supports user communication in private chats through voice calls, video calls, text messaging, media and files, or as part of a community called “Server” (a collection of specific chat rooms and voice chat channels that can be accessed via invitation links).
As a growing sophisticated game chat application and community, Discord began as a common voice chat application and IM Tools for games. Later, it moved to the Live Games platform and then to a community platform for the Game Store. Now, it has become the tool of choice for gamers to communicate and collaborate on the game. In addition, it attracts a large non-gamer audience and is widely used by study groups, dance classes, book clubs, and many other virtual gathering groups. Even better, Discord can quickly and easily connect to Steam, Facebook, Twitch and other popular social platforms.
Discord used group chatting as a starting point in games, gradually creating a huge community of players. Since then, more and more “non-gamers” have come to Discord, creating all sorts of channels, such as “Study Group” and “Sneaker Discussion Group”, making Discord an integrated Internet community based on interest. Discord’s product functions and arguments are similar to Slack’s, but are based on a “hobby and interest” and focus on an “office scene”. It defeated Microsoft’s own Skype in a voice race. This is probably one of the reasons Microsoft wants to buy it.
